Rose Garden San Jose

Rose Garden, also known as Rosegarden, is a historic residential and cultural Community in San Jose, California, near Downtown San Jose. Rose Garden is mainly characterized by historic residences, but it's also home to several institutions, including the San Jose Rose Garden and Rosicrucian Park, which include the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. The Rose Garden is one of San Jose areas outside the 18th and 19th century downtown core around the Pueblo de San José, de Guadalupe. A number of present Victorian houses in the neighborhood date from the 1860 and 1870 s, notably along Magnolia Street, Hester Street, and Hedding Street.

Among the earliest subdivisions of San Jose is the 1877 Chapman & Davis tract, which spans 3x8 city blocks, lying to the west of San Jose and the Santa Clara Railway along Alameda. This was the first intercity railway in California when it started with trolleys in 1868, the second electric tram line in California, along with the first Electric streetcar from from the west route using the third underground railroad when it was reopened in 1888. It had been converted to an overhead trolley in 1889. Each residential lot was initially one half acre, but many have been subdivided further as. In the late 19th and early 20th, hundreds of years, The Alameda attracted many wealthy citizens who constructed mansions along it.

The Dunne mansion on the corner of Emory Street, constructed in the 1890 s, can be the earliest building on the street. In 1927, what's currently the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden and its surroundings were mainly pear and prune orchards, many of which are owned by Food Machinery Corporation. The region was home to farm houses and some mansions. In that year, the City purchased an 11-acre lot prune backyard And converted part of it to the Municipal Rose Garden. In 1937, John Crummey, the chairman of FMC, subdivided his 25 acres pear orchard in residential lots sold for $5, 00 each.

This initial development established the heart of the area named Rose Park. The area has preserved its housing. The initial architecture of the 1920 and 30s borrowed pieces from the English Cotswold Cottage, Norman and Tudor design. A number of the first bungalows have been remodeled or torn down and replaced by newer architectural fashions.

Located west of Sunol Midtown, North West of Burbank, northeast of Winchester, and east of Cory Locality, and southeast of the Town of Santa Clara, the rose garden could be considered either the easternmost neighborhood of West San Jose, or the westernmost of the Fundamental neighborhoods, Though being at City Council District 6 and San Jose Unified School District politically ties the Region with central San Jose. The basic bounds are Interstate 880 to the northwest, the Alameda to the northeast, and Forest Avenue to the southeast, although there are variations. Santa Clara University lies only in the north/northwest along The Alameda.

The College Park area lies to the east. On the south side is Burbank area and just a little West and over Interstate 880, Cory neighborhood and Valley Fair Mall. Additionally into the Municipal Rose Garden, the area is home to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, Rosicrucian Park, and O'Connor Hospital.
